Since the advent of x-rays in the late 19th century and the techniques of CT scanning were developed in the 1970's, a range of increasingly advanced imaging techniques mean that doctors today have a host of scanners at their disposal.
At Al Razi Healthcare, unique Dual Source CT-Scan is the most updated and advanced technology to scan body with best quality; first of its kind in the private sector of Pakistan. Dual Source CT caters complete patient comfort while delivering high image accuracy in lesser time. No medication is required to lower heart rate prior to undergoing a cardiac CT scan. |
 |
The technologically advanced Dual Source CT scans at radiation levels as low as 50% of typical CT-Scan dosage. It also offers complete range of Dual Energy Applications e.g., classification of tumours in oncology or characterization of plaques in coronary vessels, visualization of cartilage, tendon and ligament or gout imaging in peripheral extremities etc. Dual Energy CT applications are being offered only at our centre in Pakistan.
Preparation for the scan
For some examinations, no preparation is required, However if the patient is having a scan of the abdomen, for example, they will be asked not to eat for up to 6 hours before the test.
The scan
Having a CT scan involves lying on a table that slides through the aperture of the scanner. The table is positioned so the part of the body being examined lies within the aperture. The table moves through the gantry as the x-ray source and the detectors rotate around inside.

The Imaging technologist operates the scanner from behind a window, and is able to see, hear and speak to the person being scanned throughout the procedure. The patient will be asked to keep very still and hold their breath for a few seconds.
For some examinations, an intravenous injection of contrast agent is needed to enhance visualisation of organs and blood vessels.
The actual scanning itself takes between a few seconds and a few minutes depending upon the examination, so most of the procedure time is in preparation and confirmation that the images are of sufficient quality. The total length of a CT scan procedure can vary from between 10 to 20 minutes.
